On Wednesday, at a campaign rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, U.S. President Trump stated that Canada “will eventually become the 51st state,” and once again expressed several longstanding dissatisfaction with Canada. Trump claimed that Canada was “very bad for us” and said, “Now things are completely different.” He accused Canada of “blackmailing” the U.S. through milk tariffs, mentioned automakers relocating factories to the U.S., and renamed Lake Ontario to “American Lake.” He also said that relations can only work if Canada becomes the 51st state, stating, “We don’t need them, but they need us.” Trump also questioned why the U.S. would lose billions of dollars “to support a country that doesn’t belong to us,” and said Canada “would be like Greenland,” making “our plate bigger and bigger.”
