While the tax rates themselves remain unchanged, the income thresholds for each bracket have been updated.<\/p>\n<p>For 2025, the federal income tax rates will be as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>$57,375 or less:<\/strong> 15%<\/li>\n<li><strong>$57,375 to $114,750:<\/strong> 20.5%<\/li>\n<li><strong>$114,750 to $177,882:<\/strong> 26%<\/li>\n<li><strong>$177,882 to $253,414:<\/strong> 29%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Over $253,414:<\/strong> 33%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The inflation index for 2025 has been set at 2.7%, which is lower than the 4.7% index for 2024. This means that the income thresholds have been adjusted to account for the rising cost of living.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these updates, the federal government had proposed a significant change in June to increase the tax rate on capital gains over $250,000 from 50% to 66.7%. This proposal, which was expected to impact the top 0.13% of the population, failed to pass in the House of Commons due to opposition from the Conservative Party. The bill was further delayed after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau\u2019s resignation and the adjournment of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Any bill not passed during the adjournment period will expire, but the government has the option to reintroduce it in the new session. However, the future of the bill remains uncertain, especially if the Liberal government does not survive a confidence vote.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the delay in the capital gains tax change, the CRA may still enforce the increased tax rate for capital gains over $250,000 after June 25, 2024, under the previously proposed provisions.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, several government benefits, including the Canada Child Benefit, are expected to increase this year, providing some relief for citizens facing higher taxes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has announced the federal income tax brackets for 2025, with adjustments made to reflect inflation.
