Canada Post announced on January 7, 2025, that it has returned to normal service levels, guaranteeing on-time delivery for domestic parcel services. This follows the resolution of a backlog caused by high parcel volumes during the busy holiday season. As of January 6, Canada Post has successfully stabilized operations and resumed its on-time delivery guarantees, including for rural and remote areas.
A spokesperson for Canada Post expressed appreciation for customers’ patience during this period of transition. While parcel deliveries have returned to normal, the company cautioned that there may still be delays of several days for the delivery of domestic transaction mail, such as letters, bills, and statements. Business customers should also expect slight delays in local mail processing and delivery.
International deliveries are also expected to face delays as the company continues to address the backlog. Canada Post assured customers that it will keep both regular and business customers informed about the progress of mail and parcel deliveries.
The service disruption stemmed from a nationwide strike in November 2024, when approximately 55,000 Canada Post employees walked off the job, citing demands for higher wages, better job security, a safer work environment, and sufficient staffing for weekend deliveries. This return to normal service is seen as the result of efforts to process accumulated volumes and recent shipments after the strike.
