Ontario is offering free GO Transit to Canadian Forces veterans and active-duty service members. The policy will be implemented starting March 1, 2025.
Michael Parsa, Ontario’s Minister of Children and Social Services, announced the free transit program on Tuesday, May 5, and plans to expand the free fare benefit to UP Express in the future. This is one of the policies Ontario is pursuing as part of its social welfare for its military personnel.
The Ontario government also announced that the annual subsidy that veterans and their families can receive through the Servicemen’s Aid Board will be increased from $2,000 to $3,000. The subsidy can be used to cover health-related expenses, home repairs, moving expenses, and personal items for those who are experiencing financial hardship.
“Our veterans have made important sacrifices that have shaped Canada and Ontario today, and they deserve the continued and unwavering support of our government,” Parsa said.
