University of Toronto ranked #1 for sustainability.

The University of Toronto has been ranked as the world’s best university in ‘sustainability’ for the second consecutive year. In the World University Rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a global analysis agency, the University of Toronto ranked first, beating out famous universities such as ETH Zurich, University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, and Harvard University.

The ranking evaluates how much each university pursues a sustainable life in the field of environment, society, and governance (ESG), and important evaluation factors include the extent to which graduates have contributed to solving climate problems through science and technology, and research performance to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The University of Toronto ranked first, beating out more than 1,700 universities, scoring 91/100 in the field of environmental sustainability, 99.7/100 in the field of environmental education, and 98.5/100 in the field of environmental studies.

Canadian universities also stood out in the sustainability rankings. The University of British Columbia (UBC) tied for fifth, McGill University 15th, and Western University 30th.
